Shopping on the High Street this morning. One of the small joys of living here is our greengrocer, with fresh & local produce…
In much of continental Europe this comment might seem absurd. Would the French be prepared to accept anything less than fresh? The Italians?
12.37 The business & financial practices of the music industry are incompatible with the practices of the ethical company. Discuss.
This morning’s reading (Maurice Cowling: Volume III) returns to mind the acutalite of the music industry. The distance between professional standards of best-practice & action-on-the-ground is deserving of discussion; but life is short and, for those who know the constraints of the working person, often of itself this facilitates conduct which is less than ideal, less than the declared professional standard, less than the standard we claim for ourselves. In a word, hypocrisy.
As regards the English industry of my generation: In the fullness of time, there is a story to be told, a microcosm of English life in the period; characterised by a transition from the word of a gentleman: his word is his bond to we have no record of this in the contract and I do not recall.
